I started this project with one goal in mind- experiment with as many new techniques as possible. And I did just that!
So here are some new things I did/learned:
- This is the smallest rope (paracord) I’d used yet, which made it easier to manipulate the shape.
- I learned if you do your stitches right after another instead of in the center, you get a cool diagonal/spiral pattern worked into the design!
- I played with the shape of the vessel. I wanted it to look like a vase or chalice. I also wanted it to still be functional so I left the opening wide. It definitely would’ve been neater looking had I made the opening smaller.
- I tried for the first time to incorporate a picture (the heart) within the design. It’s what made me name this piece “the love chalice”
- I added handles on the sides of the cup and a lip to the rim to give it the chalice/vase like qualities. I should’ve either made the handles higher on the cup, or made the cup smaller so the handles would’ve been more centered.
- Color/yarn choices! I used what I had on hand, since this was just an experimental project! The grey yarn was from a previous project. It was acrylic and scratchy. For the heart I used this synthetic wool-like yarn I got from Dollar Tree. It worked surprisingly well and was easy to wrap.
This piece was fun to make! I started it in Texas and finished it in Arizona. I liked that I had more freedom to experiment and learn rather than trying to make something polished. I added a few new skills to my toolbox after this project! 🙂

Materials: Paracord, yarn and a tapestry needle
Estimated work time: About 1 month
Remember: This is all made from a single, uncut piece of rope!
