After finishing The Basket, I wanted to dive into another project immediately! I bought more rope and got some color shifting yarn from Hobby Lobby. The moment I saw the rainbow color shift in the Yarn Bee’s Caterina Golden Gate Sunset, I knew it was the one! I bought 4 skeins. I was excited to see how the color shift would look throughout the bag! I love that one side actually looks like a sunset!
So I started with a coil spiral as always, to make a circular purse. I contemplated a beach bag style but thought this one would be more unique and I could learn more! This was my first experimentation with really sculpting the rope! I realized this medium is a lot like 3D printing, so I could make sculptures with a single piece of rope! It just takes way way way longer than a 3D printer! haha
I learned a lot while making this! The yarn was super fuzzy, which didn’t make it look very polished. The rope was too bulky for a bag so it’s a bit heavy and awkward on the hip. But the handles make up for that! It reminds me of a hat box and I love it! The straps also had a lot of gaps. It wasn’t that bad when I was wrapping but as the bag got used, the yarn shifted and exposed more rope. It’s also very hard weaving inward so one side is more tightly wrapped than the other!

Supplies:
Foam core rope
Color shifting yarn- Yarn Bee’s Caterina Gold Gate Sunset
Tapestry needle
I made some mistakes on this one but improved a lot on the next one I made- Ojo! Which I’ll share all the details on next time! 🙂
I really love how colorful this one is! I’d love to work with another color shifting yarn, but need to do more research and see if I can find ones that aren’t as fuzzy!
Well that’s all for now!
Until next time!
